Growing up on the wild and wet western coast of Ireland, Mel‘s interest in rock ‘n roll can be traced back to his early experiences of growing up in a highly musical family, and playing in various bands as a guitarist, and then later, singer and bass player. At frst, he was drawn more to the guitar, and was heavily influenced by rock greats like Jimi Hendrix, Slash, Led Zeppelin, Santana and Stevie Ray Vaughan. After hearing the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ seminal ‘BloodSugarSexMagic’, he decided that perhaps there was something in this bass thing, and purchased his first Fender Jazz bass. After school he played in several bands around his hometown of Leitrim, but shortly thereafter he tired of the Leitrim music scene and moved to Dublin, where he gigged with several covers and original bands while working through college. After moving to Zurich in 2008, he focussed on his career, but never lost th drive to create and play music. In 2013, he met Rivercash which became later Third Stone Circus, and was delighted to find people still making the kind of music he loved; intense, challenging rock with great melodies and riffs.
